Fishin’ Impossible
Mooching about on the Small River and I happened to bump into Adam & Alan from the fantastic blog - Fishin' Impossible - down souf and searching for a barbel. They hadn't spotted any yet so we walked a short distance upstream to a shoal I'd been watching earlier...
Adam lobbed out a bit of bread (yeah!!) and we watch a barbel catch it's scent, swim up 15 or 20 foot, barge a chub out of the way - and - fish on! Great fight before a beautiful 6lb 11oz barbel was in the net. One of them there London barbel - nice one Adam.
With the shoal spooked we went searching for more, we put in a few miles but they were very well hidden - plus they refused to come up for bread on the surface - switched off in the bright conditions. But I'd had a few early doors, including number 100 of the season (above).

Great write up Brian, was great to meet you and thanks for the barbel tips!
ReplyDeleteIt was a shame they weren’t really moving around and feeding when you only had a morning - but at least you got one (it wasn’t ‘Blanking With Brian’). And watching it swim upstream, move that chub & take the bait was pretty exciting - even from a spectator’s point of view. We’ll get more next time…
DeleteGood stuff both, always nice to meet a fellow blogger !!
ReplyDeleteYeah, we’re a rare breed these days - it’s turning into a pretty exclusive club - stupid Facebook (it won’t catch on). A lot of pressure when they’re not feeding - so was over the moon when that one found the net!
DeleteHow lovely
ReplyDeleteSplendid!
DeleteGood stuff chaps, glad Adam managed one!
ReplyDeleteThanks James, I will be after one of your doubles next!!
DeleteWell you have them close to home, there are certainly a few in the Swale, Ure, Ouse and Wharfe, it's purely a case of homework first then hit the river with that information and hope its put into good practice!
DeleteWhen I ineviatbly head up there, I will let you know!
Bring on the doubles..!
