Fishing Fix
To the river for my weekly fishing fix, water was too dirty for perch - but I don’t mind the odd barbel! But to annihilate my nearly 8 year old PB made a rather familiar trip this season into a trip of dreams!!
Tiny pinch of breadflake about the size of my thumbnail, freelined in about 18 inches of water did the trick - and what a cracking fight - before my new PB was in the net - 14lb 2oz - get in!
A distinctive barbel - one I've caught once before - but she's been sat at the buffet cart since then! Backed up with barbel of 8lb 15oz and one about 3½lb. Fantastic. No mile count today - I floated home!

Even I'm on first names terms with that fish Brian, easily recognisable from your blog, a cracker !!
ReplyDeleteMeatball! I’ve only caught her once before although I’ve seen her half a dozen times - she’s a proper wanderer. And piling on the weight - next year she might go over the magic number!
DeleteIm always amazed how small rivers can produce such big fish. Well done cracking fish.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I’m on the train (back in the old days) I look at every little river and stream wondering what’s in there - they don’t need much water over their heads!
DeleteCheers - fantastic fish - it’ll take some beating...
Bet you did
ReplyDeleteDon’t remember touching the floor on the way home :-)
Deletewell done. Cracker!!
ReplyDeleteCheers, a beast - might be a while before I top that weight!
Deleteyou need to update your PB widget?!!?
ReplyDeleteAlready done :-)
DeleteAh, you’re right - I missed that list - updated now!
DeleteI thought I saw you hadn't. But was "working" so only reading with half an eye!!
DeleteIncredible fish Brian.
ReplyDeleteLooks like she has a few ailments too?
Cheers George. It’s had that lump since at least 8lb or 9lb when a mate caught it - and named her Meatball - doesn’t seem to be doing any harm.
DeleteWspaniała !
ReplyDeleteDziękuję Ci !
DeleteCracking fish well done!
ReplyDeleteCheers Jack. You been out? Probably a silly question in these conditions!
DeleteNot for the past few weeks! But I was getting the odd fish before these latest floods into double figures. Hopefully things settle down soon
DeleteBeen watching the water levels online (not that I can get there), hope it’s fishable soon - won’t be long before we run out of season...
DeleteYes not long now.. I have booked a few days off towards the end of the season, hopefully the river is fishable
DeleteDoubt I’ll get back (I will if I can) - so let me know how you get on - cheers
DeleteNot bad Brian!
ReplyDeleteMeatball looks good never imagined her getting that big.
Cheers Stu.
DeleteHow big is she going to get?
God knows. Was surprised the wight it was before, but looks like she might go some more in the future if she carries on...
DeleteBy the weight*
DeleteI’m amazed by the growth rate (weighed her twice). I hope she doesn’t come out again for a year - then I hope it’s to me :-)
Delete(But I know James will get her 1 or 2oz bigger before the season is over).
