Heatwave

Normally a British heatwave is when we can string two rain-free summer days together, then we quickly complain about the heat, panic buy ice lollies and dig out the shorts before it's all over!

But we really had a heatwave, time feels distorted - was it 6 weeks? Two months? Anyway it's time for some rain. I’ve been avoiding the barbel in the low water. Chub off the top are still game though!

  1. Couldn't agree more. Too hot to sit exposed on the bank which rules out most of my waters and I can't bring myself to give fish grief whilst they are undoubtably struggling.

But all bets are off for next week :o)

    1. Yeah, it’s been early starts and small species - really hope we get the rain that’s forecast - then like you said, all bets are off!

  2. June 17th at 0640 was the last rain I saw until yesterday evening at 5pm, so that is 41 days!! That's pretty crazy right, I think thats the longest period without rain I can remember, certainly in living memory.

Oh and lovely Chub too mate!

Enjoy those toothy buggers won't you!

    1. It’s mad, needs a proper flush through - can t believe we’re in summer hoping for rain. Normally ‘it’s summer - when will it stop raining?!’

  3. They have stopped fishing on the Wye. Dylan went out in his canoe and saw several large dead Barbel so they are struggling in the warm low oxygen water.

    1. I read that, where I was fishing was managed flow but there was still a few dead barbel - best just leave them alone until the oxygen levels return to normal.
