So Close

With a beautiful day forecast I set out into the November morning to try and bag a barbel or two before the cold weather kicks in. And it nearly went so well...

I hooked into what looked like a good double and after a fairly long fight the fish swerved past the waiting net, used it's last reserve of power, shot across the river into a snag.

I tried every trick in the book but it was stuck solid. And just as my hook departed my phone beeped - James texting me to let me know he'd just bagged a double... Some you win etc...

I wasn't too disappointed though, landing four fish - the best going 7lb 0oz (above) and the others going between 1-2lb.

I wonder how long this weather is going to last.

    1. Unlucky. As long as it stays warm I'll keep chasing them!

  2. Shame that Brian, I know how it feels and I sympathise too, but yesterday was my time and I managed to bank my Barbel albeit at a price, although you still got a few on the bank which would have been good for me as I'm sure you were happy enough.

    1. I read you slipped in, was tempted to go in myself but I was on my own, even in a small river not worth drowning for a fish.

      Nice one with your double.

    2. Well the weather is starting to turn in the direction that would be accustomed to for November, so I think it is back to the Pike soon but a Gudgeon session must be embarked on soon, do you fancy it? Bring a little keepnet and have a competition, a match if you will ?? Make it interesting and have a prize for the winner for both biggest specimen and amount caught?

    3. Have a bigger plan in mind; planning an assault on the record. Know where they hang out, got the scales. Bit early in the season yet but that's a PB I want this year... You've had a 5, I've had a 4, think we should get on it!

But up for a match in the mean time.
