The challenge was to catch as many species from the local little river as I could during the season. I set an unrealistic target of 20 species and surprised myself just how close I got, especially as I abandoned the challenge as soon as the pike season started!
Relying on experience from the past eight years, a few tip offs from James (rudd & bullhead) and a lot of luck (choach & koi) I managed to land a total of 18 species. And I spotted a couple of tench and a bream - so twenty species was a possibility - next season?

"There are two types of fish: Pike and Bait"

Good luck!
ReplyDeleteCheers, if I can get a bream and a tench fairly early season I’ll go for it. Though the odds on recapturing that choach might be agains me!
DeleteThere's always the stone loach ;o)
ReplyDeleteCouldn’t find one, and I put the effort in :-)
Deletebleak,catfish...goldfish..?
ReplyDeleteHaven’t seen a bleak in there since the first season I fished it, yeah there’s at least a couple of cats still in there, had a goldfish. Previously seen pike, fan tails, rainbow trout and salmon (also seen by James). And seen photos crucian carp and leather carp... So it’s definitely doable!
Deletemaybe even a few tidal visitors at the mouth?
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I seem to catch down there are eels and crabs. Would love a flounder - never caught one before.
Deleteteddington might be worth a go.there's a video of someone catching bass on lures.
DeleteReally should give it a go this summer...
