Gone Baby Gone

Back to my roach spot and after a few casts with no bites I climbed the tree, the shoal had gone... They'd eaten all the pre-baiting corn and bread balls and done a runner! A scout about the surrounding 100 yards revealed no fish, had they dispersed or the shoal just moved?

Time to crack on with the barbel challenge then. I worked my way down the river but the barbel seemed just as elusive, I had a few small chublets and the odd little roach but the day wasn't going well.

A phone call from Darren revealed the location of a shoal of big chub (he'd had one of them earlier), I was straight there. And a 3lb 8oz chub first cast saved the day (one of the smaller fish in the group).

Time to relocate the roach shoal... And find a barbel...

Barbel Challenge July 2012:
30lb 15oz | 5 barbel | 6lb 3oz average | 7lb 13oz best

    1. Cheers, I need a bit of luck when it comes to roach! I read somewhere that if chub eat a lot of snails they turn gold... No idea if it's true or not.

  3. Hey Brian - keep the posts coming! You may remember me, I commented on your blog ages ago asking for a few tips on fishing the wandle, and you were kind enough to reply. Well today I met your mate Darren on the bank, and he told me to post how I got on!.. so.. Bit gutted you left when you did mate as had a fish literally minutes after you did! - My first Wandle barbel at that, get inn!! Didnt have scales with me but have a pic here below, and must have been a late 8, early 9lb-er I think. Had two more barbs, one about 4 and one slightly bigger, about 5-6.. and then this nice chub below too! Happy days. Gonna get back out there again more often if I can. Tight lines gents and good to meet you Darren. Be lucky.

    1. Great stuff, really wanted to get out on the bank today but got trapped at work (still working now). But I'll bump into you if you're there once in a while.

Good going with the fish (I can see the photos by following the links) - but remember the scales next time :)

      See you soon
