There was something a bit odd about my first perch of the season; strange shape, wouldn't fit in the landing net and weighed 19lb 4oz. You won't believe me after the last blog post but I was genuinely targeting perch (little lure below) - but a new lure-caught PB and probably the longest pike I've ever caught - I'll take it! No perch.

That's one extra for sure Brian👍 Were you using a rod designed for, ahem, smaller fish?
ReplyDeleteStandard light perch gear - but I always use a wire trace on The Wye which gave me a fighting chance!
DeleteNice perch Brian, well done!
ReplyDeleteCheers, funny looking perch but closest I’ve come to a real one so far…
DeleteThat's a right old lump, nice one. Bet that fought well !!
ReplyDeleteShowed herself straight away then shot right across the river - great fight, not sure I enjoyed it though..!
DeleteMy favourite pike lure is the spinner bait, perch like them too - apparently. Bet that got the heart racing.
ReplyDeleteThey do love a Beetle-Spin, got them in a variety of sizes and colours for later in the year. Heart racing? Nearly gave me a heart attack when I saw her turn in the water!!
DeleteCracking fish - looks bigger! Hopefully see it again over the winter
ReplyDeleteI was on a high bank looking down on her - and I thought I might be in PB territory for a while. Don’t want to see her again until February - then she’ll smash my current PB - fingers crossed.
DeleteNice nuisance fish!
ReplyDeleteThey can annoy me all winter if they want!
DeleteA great trophy shot of by-catch...does it count : )
ReplyDeleteWell done mate, that's epic !
It counts, and is just the opener… Bigger to follow… I hope…
