Saturday saw the loss of a
monster perch - biggest one I've seen - a few (a lot of) casts later I was looking at a double-figure pike consolation prize - but that pinged off the hook as well. Not my day!
I was all set for a rematch yesterday, but the river was rising & red, plus it was set to piss down all day - only a madman would go lure fishing in that! So I went barbel fishing instead!!
8lb 1oz, Wye barbel #49
6lb 2oz, Wye barbel #50 of the season - phew - 150 to go... :-)
Very nice mate, do you feel the Barbel fishing is improving? I'm looking to get up there around the 2nd week of October.
ReplyDeleteI think they’ll need a few days to get used to this red water - hopefully it will pick up then. Still raining so first proper wash through of the season - it can only help.
DeleteFrom my time on the Red Lion, Wye Barbel tend to feed on the rising river, as soon as it peaks, the chub get to the bait first. You can still catch but it often takes a couple or three days to get regular barbel action again.
ReplyDeleteRiver was rising, three proper bites, 2 barbel & 1 chub. Hopefully test your theory tomorrow…
DeleteSorry to ask this, but more detail on the Monster perch needed!!
ReplyDeleteTiny white Curltail, thought I'd hit a small pike (stayed deep) surfaced in front of me and spat the hook. Easy my 3lb+ target - pretty gutted!
DeletePainful. Am sure you will get that chance again soon. Good luck!
DeleteCheers. Hopefully I’ll bump into some while I’m piking…
