If I can't get out for another pike before the season ends I'd settle for another double figure barbel... And when this one found the net after a serious fight I was sure I'd done it! But at
9lb 14oz she was 2oz short... Do I care? Nope - cracking barbel - more than happy!!
I think the problem with the landing net (top diagram) is the point of maximum stress (A) is really close to the weakest point, the drilled hole (B). Would doing away with this hole & screw fix this problem (bottom diagram)? An easy modification to make at home - I'm going to try it.
Great Fish there Isambard!!
ReplyDeleteLovely fish, shame it didn’t have a bigger breakfast! Had to look up who Isambard was!!
DeleteIsambard kingdom brunel! Master engineer!
DeleteNice Barbel too mate, I think the bait it took would have been the 2oz you were searching for!
Just needed one more meal, probably scraped over the magic mark before the season ended.
Deletesurely if you remove the screw there is still a hole in the metal hoop (which is the weak point). Definitely needs a redesign.
ReplyDeleteGoing to cut it down, see below…
DeleteOr are you talking about cutting the first hole off and pushing the hoop in further?
ReplyDeleteYeah, going to cut the first hole off - I’ll only loose a couple of centimetres - and hopefully extend it’s life expectancy.
DeleteBarbeltastic.
