Two Hundred To One

Afternoon on the river & barbel number two hundred of the season! One of four that found the net, that's 200 barbel to one pike! I'm not complaining about the barbel - far from it - but I need to find some more local pike fishing next winter - to the Google!

And I found the shoal of big chub, they had moved about quarter of a mile. More spread out on a shallow glide I bagged three; 5lb 8oz, 4lb 14oz, & 4lb 12oz. Even though there are 12-15 chub in the shoal the five was a recapture - at least I know it's the same shoal!

    1. Now just to bag one of the sixes from the shoal…

  2. An inability to find Pike seems to be a common theme amongst anglers this season. Those quality Chub seem to compensate, however, whilst you continue your search. Stay positive and tight lines will be the reward - Dylan

    1. The more I read and talk to people on the bank the more widespread the pike population crash seems to be - can only hope to find a few more this season, though I’m not sure where. Do love a big chub but missing the pike.

  3. Cracking chub. A six would be awesome too!

    1. Cheers, there are a few six-plus in the shoal, it’s just a case of keeping track of them - they are brilliant at hiding!

  4. 200+ Barbel in a season, those stats are epic mate, even given your lack of summer fishing, keep it going mate.

    1. I can complain about the lack of pike - but the number of barbel has been fantastic - even though a double this season still eludes me - still time though…

    2. Maybe see out this season on the Barbel front and for next winter get a ticket / venue prepared for a Pikey assault. I will be very much up for giving a water a good go. I have a couple of places in mind.

    3. I’m very much up for a more serious pike assault next season, only one pike so far this winter! Doing a bit of research myself looking for a few venues near London…
