A wander about with the stick 'n' pin & a pint of maggots, and
James. One point for a roach, dace or chub - two points for a gudgeon or perch and -10 points for a barbel. It didn't take long before I was on -10 points! Then we struggled to get another bite between us.
I lucked in & found a shoal of feeding fish - and caught most of them; 1x gudgeon, 1x dace, 6x roach, 6x minnows & about 20 chub. No need to add up the scores; James really had a day to forget - he's still buzzing from his Kennet barbel so I don't feel too bad for him!
I always thought you were the better angler ;o)
ReplyDeleteEvery dog has its day!
DeleteFish soup !!! nice one
ReplyDeleteFish soup in one tiny 5 yard stretch - the rest of the river seemed completely empty!
DeleteBagging!
ReplyDeleteTotal of 14lb of fish on a winter’s afternoon - very happy with that!
DeleteI got owned that day! I needn't have turned up really, I was chief photographer and weighmaster.
ReplyDeleteBut as you eluded to, that Kennet Barbel will see me through the long dank days for a few weeks until river number 19 falls! A cracking bag given the conditions!
It was weird that one little shoal of fish was feeding and everywhere else was dead - and lucky I bumped into them!
DeleteYeah, barbel number 19 will make up for it…
