Winter Solstice

The shortest day and almost the end of the year - would 2021 go down as the year I failed to catch a pike? To the Kentish Stour and while James tried to add another double barbel to his growing river list - I took the opportunity to float some livebaits about.

I just needed a run - and in a beautiful deep bowl I got my wish. The float sailed away - there is nothing more exciting than watching a pike float disappear! Cracking fight before a beautiful 8lb 1oz pike was in the net - job done!! Delighted. River Wye next...

  1. Awesome !!!!!! Love it when a plan comes together, even if it turned out that the Barbel simply do not eat, oh well....another time eh?

    1. Was really running out of time for a 2021 pike! Tough conditions for barbel - we were mad sitting out in that frozen evening waiting for one - still live and (don’t) learn..!

  2. Nice one! Good luck on the wye, hopefully catch you down there next week. Been on it most days this week wobbling and lure fishing with it being low, several doubles but nothing massive. Merry Xmas!

    1. Cheers. Popped down The Wye for a couple of hours earlier to float a sprat about. No pike, was surprised just how clear it was - should have taken lures instead. I’ll been down there most days for the next week or so - see you there. Merry Christmas!
