After an afternoon thrashing the canals to a foam with lures without so much as a follow I thought I'd hit the Small River for some barbel action. This much needed rain must have sparked a feeding frenzy - nope - just one fish! Anything but predictable!!

More fly fishing for mullet along the tidal river, luckily ten minutes walk
from the house. Me and PC gave it a good effort and we both had a take.

If in doubt, Barbel. My blank saver is normally a 2 oz silver, not a big barbel!!
ReplyDeleteVery lucky with those barbel - but they’re going to get more difficult to catch as it gets colder...
DeleteI think heavy rain after a long dry spell washes a lot of pollutants into the river, diesel, tyre rubber oil. and i think it upsets the fish. when it washes through they will feed.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it’s almost an entirely concrete run off into that river with plenty of factories and main roads. But it will wash through quickly.
