Watching The Wye

I feel I'm running out of time on my Pike Challenge and my best bet is going to be heading back to my home turf River Wye. At my current average I need another 21 pike!

The problem is the floods, I've been monitoring the river levels via the EA website and as soon as the levels drop below the 'pike line' I'm going to head back - if it happens before March 14th... 48 days left!

I do have a couple of trips planned with James, and if I get a mid-week day off work I'll be heading to The Hook. Bait freezer stocked, kit cleaner and tidier than it's been for years... Come on the Weather Gods..!

  1. The Wye has been somewhat of a cruel mistress to you these last few years. Crap some might say. But I've no doubt that she holds that big pike you've long wanted. You certainly have the skills, passion and right gilly for the job, now you just need the time and opportunity to succeed.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that the river becomes fish able sooner rather than later for you.

  2. Not looking good is it Brian, let's hope Salisbury is fish able and we give our selves a good chance in snaring a few Pike and maybe our first Grayling. Touch wood.

    1. Like you, I'll fish thought the wind, rain and floods... But I find myself longing for a crisp, dry day with the water levels somewhere near fishable... Either way we'll give those grayling and pike a good GI!

    1. I feel I'm moaning on about these floods, but the hope is I'll read this back next season and it'll give me a kick up the arse to start piking earlier in the year!

Cold, settled weather for a month or so would be great!

  4. I hope you get back on the Wye before the season ends! At least you've managed some Wye pike recently Brian, well-in. I've not been near the river since October... Ben

    1. Me too! Shouldn't complain - I didn't manage to wet a line in The Wye all last season. Time to stop complaining about the weather and get on with it.*

*May still complain about the weather!
