I quite like these weekly reports, I'll go back and count up fish and hours over my season on The Wye (if I stick with the reports).
Sunday 21st: | 5 barbel / 3 chub / 1 eel | 6 hours |
Monday 22nd: | 2 barbel / 2 chub / 2 eels | 2 hours |
Tuesday 23rd: | 4 chub | 2 hours |
Thursday 25th: | 0 perch (1 chub) | 2 hours |
Friday 26th: | 1 barbel / 6 chub | 2 hours |
And I really like the fact the barbel have started to feed - bit flaky but getting better! And who said there are no eels in The Wye?

Nature Table #6

I've seen a few Wombles scurrying about - but this one stopped long enough to get a photo - got to love Wombles!
How much ground are you covering Brian, or is it one or two productive swims? Heggies are great little critters, we still feed them each night.
ReplyDeleteI’m covering a couple of miles, and seeing a lot of fish, but tending to get them from a couple of swims. I have found a big shoal of barbel that simply won’t touch a bait - which is odd as I know nobody else is fishing for them - hoping they will ‘switch on’ and I’ll bag up. But happy to just see a few on the bank for my efforts!
DeleteLower pressured barbel on the Wye can take a while to catch on. Also, if they are feeding in mid-water and flashing a lot, they can seem impossible. A bit of extra water often helps ;o)
DeleteI’d like to get them up to the surface with floating crust (they’re mostly in about 3-4 foot of water) but there is too much bird activity. Got to make the most of the low water conditions as I’m sure it’ll be flooded most of the winter :-(
