Spring Time?

Spring seems to be springing - well, until the frost kicks in again...

Found a mallard nest with seventeen eggs - that seems like a lot...

And the barbel were on the munch - 9lb 0oz above...

A 6lb 7oz recapture - a long way from where I saw her last...

5lb 12oz, 3lb, 1¾lb & 1½lb - that's 200 from the river this season!

  1. Spring is definitely very close Brian, hopefully the tench will be stirring in their beds. I reckon that mallard's nest is more like a commune - or is it a ducky practical joke?

    1. Lots of rain forecast but the frost seem to be behind us - so the tench will hopefully be coming out to play very soon.

Mallard’s normally lay 8-13 eggs, so well done that poor duck - she hopped straight back on the nest as soon as I left so hopefully I’ll get a photo of 17 ducklings in a few weeks.

    2. I want them all in a line please, doesn't have to be straight but if they can be in age order that would be great!

    3. That’ll be far easier to do when they’re chicks :-)

    1. Before the season started I wasn’t sure I was even going to catch a barbel - so 200 is beyond my wildest dreams - any more will just be a bonus!
