Small River Roach
A couple of afternoons chasing small river roach; stick 'n' pin, bread for bait and polaroids to spot the shoals under the weedbeds. One or two fish from each swim before moving on - a lot of water covered. And a lot of fish spotted, including future targets - carp, chub, dace.
First session I landed about a dozen roach - including three over a pound; 1lb 2oz, 1lb 1oz and 1lb 0oz. Second session I landed a couple of dozen - biggest was 14oz - smallest about 10oz - cracking bag of roach! Oh, and I found a lure - always a bonus!

Great roach fishing, for any river Brian, proper job.
ReplyDeleteCheers. If they weren’t so spread out it would have been a proper keepnet full.
DeleteAbsolute beauties! The fish of my youth... I can almost smell them! 😄
ReplyDeleteNever really fished for them as a kid - it went bleak, chub, pike... But love a bit of trotting for them now!
Deletewell done, is that a pb lure??
ReplyDeleteCheers. No, once found an eight inch lure on the beach in Georgia, oh and once caught a log with about 6 lures caught in it from The Wye! But always great to find another!!
DeleteStunners mate, I can't wait to get on to the Roach once the rivers get a good flush through
ReplyDeleteMassive shoals of roach there - it’s just trying to target the bigger ones - or play the numbers game (I’m more than happy catching roach all afternoon).
