Dennis Vs The Wye

Soon after Storm Ciara topped up The Wye, Storm Dennis arrived. With the river still up and the water table high the extra rain pushed the water levels up to a new record high level - the gauge is broken but locals have estimated it was about +5.3 meters of extra water.

The river flooded local shops & houses - no one was hurt but there was a lot of damage. And makes me realise just how lucky me and my brother were with our pike trip a couple of weeks ago - but it looks like one last weekend before the season ends isn’t going to happen...

  1. The towns have closed all the car parks around here, we have anchorage points now. But a mate of mine found an otter that looked like it may have drowned so, every cloud and all that.

    1. Been looking at photos of my home town Ross-In-Wye, so much water! Drowned otters good news, stranded fish not so good - remember my Dad rescuing a pike from a flooded field - hopefully pike casualties will be low.

  2. I reckon you fished one of the only weeks of the season where it was fishable every day! I’m back next weekend and for the final day of the season, though not looking too promising for next week. Still, it drops very quickly further upstream so hopefully it may be fishable further up.

    1. We really lucked in - wasn’t easy but at least we could get to the river with a reasonable chance of a pike.

The gauge is still broken but I can see from Facebook photos that it’s mostly back in the banks already. Stirred up and more rain coming but good luck - as they say; got to be in it to win it!

Good luck - and as alway let me know how you get on - cheers. I’ll keep monitoring it, might hack it back for a day or two.

  3. Of course - will let you know if I get any! I was looking at the level up at hay - looked like it rose 4m in a day and then dropped 3m in the next day! Need a bit of luck but the weather does look a bit better next week.
