Axe Casp Wrecks Lunch Break
-
After a steady morning's work I was looking forward to a quiet lunch by the
estuary. The tide was low and there were a few gulls to look at. Most were
up...

Bad luck. I didn't think conditions were all that good yesterday morning, and presumably not for the gudgeon. Still, three weeks left.
ReplyDeleteYeah, woke up to rain and snow, knew is was going to be pretty rubbish but only need a 3lb barbel to crack the 300 mark so gave it a blast. And so close to nailing it, hook pull at the net was about 7lb and got one about 5lb snagged. 20 days left...
DeleteThe weather looks a bit mixed this week so will have to choose my days carefully to go for the gudgeon!
ReplyDeleteThe gudgeon will be nearing their maximum weight, just need some better conditions - good luck.
Deletetechnically speaking,a chub is not a blank, and you have caught barbel when after gudgeon!it would've been worse if you had not had a bite.i had 3 trees come past last sunday!you will easily get that 3lber-as soon as you relax and stop thinking about it.not sure about that 100lb pike though!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it wasn't really a blank, was just being dramatic. A chub is always welcome, in fact when I've targeted them this season I've struggled. Hopefully we get some better conditions over then next couple of weeks, be a shame to get this close and fail over a three pounder!
DeleteWell don't be counting no poxy Chub
DeleteCan't count a Poxy Chub. Easier to catch than an eel, and almost as much of a nuisance.
ReplyDeleteYou would call a 8lb chub a poxy chub! Nuisance for you, often a target for me! And a welcome fish on Saturday.
DeleteDamn right I would. Throw it in the bushes as well! rofl
DeleteRight, hopefully bag my 3lb barbel then I'm going nuisance fishing... A nice afternoon on the river targeting nuisances... Lovely.
DeleteNo try and catch yourself a Pike. Much more satisfying.
Deletei've had a 9lb 4oz nuisance chub.that £300 in rods,cash and bait was a right pain! i predict 3lb 1oz first cast on sat!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's one hell of a nuisance! I'd love one of those!!
DeleteFingers crossed for Saturday...
yeah.had it barbel fishing on the lea.2 weeks after neil stephen had it,and 3 days before the season ended.i swear you could hear all the fish-chasers gear being put away at fishers green when news got round it had come out again.it is unbelievably large to see..24" long, with a 17.5" girth.that was in 2011.been caught since but not as large.weather's looking good for you!
