A reccy to The Pits with my mate Jack. Research for later in the season, easier to see the features in low, clear conditions. It's very overgrown & unloved - the perfect environment for a big esox to hide away!?

Too many miles to travel without a cast though - we couldn't resist - and five beautiful gravel pit pike in the autumn sunshine (Jack also had two before he had to rush off early). Can't wait to go back...

Looks like you will have to find a way past the little 'uns. Great fun though, bait or lure?
ReplyDeleteI am MORE than happy to catch the smaller fish while I'm trying to find grandma. Only one on lure, they were out of range, rest on deadbait on a long drift (next time I'm going to use a drift float or balloons to speed up delivery).
DeleteLook forward to the next trip and searching out the bigger ones!
ReplyDeleteMe too, got to track down the big one we saw swirl...
DeleteThat first one looks a beauty.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful looking pike in that clear water, just want one twice (or three times) the size. But I’m happy catching these if I’m honest…
DeleteNice start on the Pike front mate, as it gets closer to Christmas lets hope some of the big girls show.
ReplyDeleteCheers - really hoping to get a few pike on Pike Blog this season - so not a bad start at all! Fingers crossed there’s a twenty out there waiting for me…
DeleteNot bad at all mate, I hope you find a few big Wye Pike.
DeleteI’ll certainly give it a good go!
DeleteIts definitely back to pike blog!!
ReplyDeleteYeah it’s nice to have a few pike on here (especially after the last few seasons).
